With back to back fire seasons in Washington State, its legislature is working to increase the amount of prescribed fires allowed there. The state House of Representatives has passed a bill calling for the Department of Natural Resources to issue permits for forest resiliency burning (aka prescribed fire) to help avoid more catastrophic fires in the future. Washington has a history of very little prescribed fire. The bill passed in a 97-0 vote. Read more here.
